Description
“Optimisation of Surgical Area and Use of Hospital Equipment by a Location System in Real Time” (OPTIMA), an R&D project co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Technology within the National R&D Plan, was carried out between November 2002 and October 2003. It dealt with the development of a platform for location and exchange of information, based on low power Bluetooth wireless technology.
OPTIMA is an open modular platform that allows the development of different applications that require the use of information location and exchange tools. One of the application fields of the project is the management of medical centres. For this, an application was created to record the time spent by patients in the different surgical rooms, as a measure of their working efficiency. This application was defined and validated in cooperation with the Hospital de La Ribera (Alzira-Valencia).
Other system applications include the location of portable material such as wheelchairs, monitoring equipment, etc., anti-theft measures for this material and location in real time of medical staff and patients.
